DCBA has instituted PDI Programs at a significant portion of the standalone children’s hospitals in the United States that have gone through this education. Through practice, through discussion with doctors in most Pediatric specialties, through extensive study, we have learned to talk Pediatrics with Pediatric specialists. We have studied the coding system and what applies and what doesn’t. We have tracked data through DRGs, AP-DRGs, APR-DRGs, severity adjusted mortality, severity adjusted complications and severity adjusted length of stay models. We have looked at the Pediatric Core Measures initiatives and understand the needs and shortcomings. We understand the needs of ICD-9 and ICD-10. We understand the needs of the Pediatric Documentation Improvement Specialist. We can train them in the diseases they will encounter, and how to best assure that the documentation will reflect accurately the severity and specificity of those diseases.
